Hasta la vista, baby – Ante Premier
Wow, its been a long time since I wrote a blog for everyone to read about me reflecting on my suffering. I joke its not my suffering I reflect on but the waves of emotion and sanity one goes through whilst in the midst of the filmmaking process…
….Something like that.
Personally I do really well up until the point of editing when the windows of existence are shut behind me for a third of the year…not fun! But the post production stage as most people in the industry know is one of the most vital stages to have your creative vision become reality. ‘Creative Vision’ sounds a bit up yourself but its pretty true, it becomes your baby having lived with it for so long. Rant- rant- rant – So to my point! I have been in the dark cradling my evil child before unleashing it out into the world and now its finally happened.
Ante is out into the wild so that others may see the suffering on the big screen in full HD!

After finishing Ante I had some much needed spare time to waste on mindless youtubing and dvd rentals. My favourite video being this mans Gerald Butler (“This is Sparta!”, 300) worthy roar – Mr Manly Clip
Hear how the scream just fades away at the end, just like his dignity.
But the funniest thing I discovered was on my Ante teaser trailer responses. Ante almost took a year to edit due to complications that I won’t go into without my lawyer present but if you take a look at this response in the comment section and pay particular attention to the dates they were written you’ll see why I found it so amusing.

So much has happened really so Im going to keep this blog mostly to the release of Ante and then in my next blog I’ll move onto the feature Shoot Out. “Feature are you crazy?” – Shhh shhh just wait until my next blog to shoot me down. I take every bit of feedback seriously and will reflect on what you say with as much verbal abuse I can muster, so you’ll have your chance to shoot down my bullet ridden helicopter dreams then.
We screened our little short film at the Kino Shorts 15 in Manchester on March 9th with the help of the very generous man John Wojowski who runs both Kino Shorts and the the KinoFilm European Festival. The film went down a real treat and all the cast and most of the crew were present to witness it which I felt allowed them to feel good about their work on the project. Sky Wilson (producer and host of Inside Report) was one the audience kind enough to give us a quote for the film.
“The most astonishing debut film i’ve seen in years”
Inside Report is a site dedicated to showcasing the best talent from the indie film world. For other quotes check the Ante website at the bottom of the page.
I personally was too busy freaking out at the time because the Presenter was bigging us up to the point that I expected some sort of firework display.
Anywho, we got a pretty big Q&A which my brother managed to film on his 7D here -
The great thing about that night was seeing the reactions of the actors because I feel I’ve already won if the actors themselves are happy with the product which they slapped their faces on. I worked with some pretty critical guys on this one too so my dignity has miraculously remained intact enough to make another one.
Mainly your first reaction is from those working closest with you on the crew and with them all being my friends, its a very honest opinion I get and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know your thinking I probably receive biased opinions… you don’t know my friends, damn near razor-blades they are. I don’t know if its a bad habbit yet but I like to think of the filmmaking process as working together as friends to create a product. So when an actor comes on board I want to show them a level of equality and comfort to really just enjoy what they are doing as well as taking it seriously. This was harder to express at 4am, at a random hotel, in the woods.

Gauging by the photo to the right I think they enjoyed the film to some degree.
Ante hasn’t been out too long so the festivals it has been entered into haven’t reached its notify date just yet. But the festivals that have responded so far are listed below. I would enter a 100 more festivals but the costs of festivals has already muscled out the cost of what it took to make the film itself!
The contributions from the cast and crew on that part were amazing so I thank you!
One festival that did reach its Notify Date was London Independent Festival which is screening Ante on the 22nd April. So if your in that neck of the woods then come say hello. Im probably wearing a white shirt and black tie for a change.
Also if your a fan of the new design of my site then check out the man behind the power Mike Distras over on the Flux mainpage. Just click the Distras Designs logo and get in touch with him!
Come see our baby on the big screen, we couldn’t be prouder!
Have a better one,
Cronin

There are few things I love more about movies than hearing from the cast and creators about their experiences making the movies.
