“Life is like Japanese game show: nobody knows what the hell is going on.”

Sat drinking my ninth tea I contemplate what would make the plate on the table appear more believable.

So to avoid any more insanity I browsed the Flux pages finally realising I havent added to my blog since the Ante shoot a while back and around that time I was lazy enough to let the crew members blog for me thinking I was being smart. So now I have to attempt to recap all that I have been through since sitting in the editing chair just to avoid colorising for an hour.

Watched  Jurassic Park: Lost World again last night after like six years and I still don’t know how Spielberg does it sometimes but his films can be magical. The sense of awe and excitement reached their peak for me with Jurassic Park. I think he lost that a little bit with Lost World going for the darker edge. But I cant get enough of Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm as his dialogue is just pure awesomeness.

[Everyones amazed by the dinosaurs.]  ”Oh, yeah. Oooh, ahhh, that’s how it always starts. Then later there’s running and screaming.”

[searching the island for Sarah]
Dr. Ian Malcolm: Sarah! Sarah!
Nick Van Owen: Sarah Harding!
Dr. Ian Malcolm: How many Sarahs you think are on this island? Sarah!

[being chased by the T-Rex]

Dr. Ian Malcolm: You think they’ll have that on the tour?

I think its maybe down to his delivery which brings me to my next point which is that I think Jeff Goldblum is some kind of warlock, demon or he knows Voodoo or something because his acting is so strange its kind of hypnotizing - Jeff Goldblum Wafers

But thats not important or anything to do with what I wanted to discuss, so moving on swiftly!

“Mommy’s very angry”

Majority of my time over the last few months has been spent on Ante and post production. The score is being created as we speak by Mr Joel Catchatoor and I’m getting on with the final gloss coating of the film before moving onto sound. One thing thats taking its toll is the Under-cranking effect thats seen once or twice in the trailer. I didn’t intend to include it in the movie but like Chan-wook Park I felt obliged to do so when viewers assumed that’s what going to happening. For Chan-wook Park everyone predicted that he was making a Vengeance trilogy as Old Boy (2003) shared certain themes as Sympathy for Mr Vengeance (2002) that he felt stupid saying he wasn’t making a trilogy in an interview, thus Lady Vengeance (2005) was born! The strange thing about under-cranking is that its pretty much just chaos. I decided to use it because I’m heavily influenced by the visual aspect of Tony Scott films, I cant deny that, and seeing as Paul added all the excitement to the movie with the writing I had to add my own little excitement in there. My reasoning for this effect was to show the heightened emotions the characters are going through. If Pierson drops a bombshell piece of Information that makes them swallow their stomachs I want the audience to experience that too, and not just with the effect but with the score, acting and editing. Oh and the film would have been finished now if render time’s weren’t so a bi***…. rant over.

So I was sat here coloring Ante when I got a call from Phil Meachem telling me that I was heading off to Northern Ireland in a day or two. I thought the music video project was another month away but you must know that there are side effects to editing. You lose days like minutes and weeks like a night out with a little too much whisky. You know it happened but you don’t remember any specifics and people don’t want to talk to you as much. So off we set on a free ticket to Eugenes place in the middle of the green country in a little town called Derry. Eugene Magee is a man I’ve worked with on nearly every production and if you have ever met him you would probably never forget. I mean this in the best way possible. The lead singer Glen Rosborough of Intermission described him as Sully from ‘Monsters Inc’ in terms of his size and friendly nature which I think is bit of a dead ringer. I think ill go more into this production in another blog because it was a big event with all its own drama and pictures. Plus I think a lot of behind the scenes might be popping up so i can link them straight to you!

Halloweens coming up soon and Working Title has been sat on the bench for a while (3 years a while?) so me and Kyle found some spare time to wipe the dust off it and see if anything was worth saving. Turns out we thought it was all worth saving and have begun editing it again (at gunpoint) to get it out this halloween. Its a bit of a homage to the 80′s style film but with a bit of a B-movie element. Its funny because it really is just a couple of students trying to make a film about a couple of students trying to make a film who inadvertently seem to be in a situation of a B-movie horror… you know it makes sense. Buts it is a lot of fun and quite a few people put a lot of effort into our crazy idea so check out the recent halloween teaser which can be found at the bottom of the page with a link to the films website. Its not to the quality we produce now and it was recorded in Standard Definition but I think because of its genre we might get away with it. Also we have a guy called Kevinenhart over on Deviant Art creating a poster for us and above is one of the examples so i’m excited to see what he can come up with!

Also on the topic of Working Title I had a dream about arguing with Kyle over cutting Scooby Doo out of the movie. Shows how much editing really is going on!

Ill keep you posted for when we hold a test screening (halloween dress only). I may go as Matthew….

“I wanna be a Cowboy Baby!”

Been thinking I haven’t been stretching my creativity much lately. Even though I’m shooting another talky Drama next (which im keeping close to the chest) which should look close to godliness I have still got the urge to shoot something fun and playful but ‘Shoot Out’ is not til spring so I’ve been thinking of a quick cutting 3-5 minute short based on a Post Apocolyptic Cowboy who enters a shooting competition. The only difference is that hes loud, playful and probably most of all bit of a coward.  He comes waltzing into town with his MP3 player that he found somewhere dancing around as all these deadly Marksmen death glare him. Problem is to further annoy them he’s going to be the best shooter of the bunch! I like the idea of playing on genre stereotypes but let me know if you think its worth developing or I should just get on with my more serious stuff and stop messing about haha…

Ok that it for me.

Have a better one!
